Propagation Mmethods of Wax Mallow

When propagating Wax mallow, cuttings are made by selecting healthy branches and shortening them to about 15 cm with the top 2 or 3 leaves. Sowing propagation is to select full seeds, soaked in warm water for 3 ~ 6 hours. Plant in loose, fertile soil, keep the soil moist, cover it with a plastic film, and wait to breed. The following are details of these two propagation methods of Wax mallow.

Propagating Wax Mallow From Cutting

When cutting Wax mallow, semi-lignified wax mallow branches were selected from March to May and trimmed. To prepare a loose, fertile soil, insert Wax mallow branches into the soil and cover the top with a plastic film. After transplanting the Wax mallow, store it in a cool and ventilated place with proper shade protection. The following are steps of Wax mallow cutting propagation.

1. Branch Treatment

Wax mallow was cut from March to May every year, and suitable temperature was beneficial to increase the survival rate of cutting. Pick out semi-lignified Wax mallow branches and shorten them to about 10 to 15 cm. Remove the bottom leaves, leaving only the top 2 or 3 leaves. Soak the branches in root powder solution and dry them for later use.

2. Soil Preparation

Choose loose and fertile soil, ensure the air permeability of soil, and can join siltstone. After soaking the soil with potassium permanganate solution, it is sterilized and disinfected to effectively kill the bacteria eggs in the soil. Drainage of the soil during the rainy season to avoid accumulation of water that can cause decay of Wax mallow roots.

3. Cutting

Insert the branch into the soil to a depth of about 5cm and press the soil around the branch with your hand. Pouring water to ensure that the soil is in a wet state, cover 1 layer of plastic film, heat preservation and moisture. After a month, the branches will grow new leaves, and when there are three or five leaves, they can be transplanted and planted.

4. Post Maintenance

After transplanting, Wax mallow should be preserved in a cool, ventilated place to ensure good air circulation. Avoid strong sunlight, it will cause sunburn of the leaves, and we need to carry out proper shade protection. Wax mallow shoots grow without excessive watering, ensuring alternate wetting and drying of the soil.

How to Propagete Wax mallow by Sowing

To seed Wax mallow, select healthy, plump Wax mallow seeds and soak them in warm water for about 3 hours. Sow the seeds evenly in loose soil, ensure the air permeability of the soil and water permeable, and cover the surface with a plastic film. After seed germination, transplanting and planting, conservation in a ventilated and cool place, shade protection. The following are steps of the sowing propagation method of Wax mallow.

1. Seed Treatment

Healthy and plump Wax mallow seeds were selected from March to June of each year and the optimum temperature was controlled at about 25℃. Wax mallow seeds should be put in warm water for 3 to 6 hours after proper drying in the sun. After sterilization and disinfection, the seeds should be soaked in warm water for about 3 to 6 hours for accelerating germination treatment, which can effectively improve the survival rate of seed germination.

3. Sowing Seeds

Sow the Wax mallow seeds evenly in a dense medium and cover with a thin layer of soil. Pouring water to ensure that the soil is in a wet state, the surface is covered with a layer of plastic film, heat preservation and moisture. After a month, the seeds will take root and germinate, wait until there are three or five leaves, you can transplant and plant.

4. Post Maintenance

After transplanting, Wax mallow is fragile and needs to be nursed in a cool, ventilated area with proper shade protection to avoid strong sun damage. Every watering to water thoroughly, to avoid the emergence of water caused by root rot. Adequate nutrient supplementation was performed after Wax mallow was grown in a suitable environment.
