Propagation methods of Ponytail Palm

The propagation methods of Ponytail Palm are sowing propagation and cutting propagation. It is usually carried out in spring and autumn festivals and winter festivals. The large and full healthy seeds are soaked into the seed to accelerate the bud, planted in the soil, watered and covered with film, and germinated one week later.Cutting propagation is carried out in spring and autumn, the robust branches will be intercepted cutting, maintain the room temperature of 20 ~ 30℃, do a good job of maintenance after one month will take root.

Ponytail Palm sowing propagation methods

1. Planting season

Ponytail Palm can sow and propagate in spring, autumn and winter. Generally, Ponytail Palm can sow in early spring, late autumn and winter to make the seeds of Ponytail Palm grow better. Sowing in this season may encounter low temperature cold waves. Remember to do a good job of insulation and cold, to prevent freezing damage.

2. Seed selection and treatment

Seeds should be planted with new seeds that are plump and healthy, and then the selected seeds should be treated. Put the seeds in potassium permanganate solution for 5 minutes for sterilization, and then soak them in warm water for 15 minutes, then soak them in hot water for half a day for accelerated germination.

3. Sowing and curing

Dip the treated seeds in water with a toothpick and spread them, one by one, on the surface of the soil. Then sprinkle a thin layer of soil over the top. Water the soil until it’s wet, cover it with a plastic film to keep it moist, and germinate in about a week.

Ponytail Palm cutting propagation methods

1. Choose branches

The commonly used propagation method of Ponytail Palm is cutting propagation, which is generally carried out in late spring and early autumn. Before cutting, appropriate branches should be selected on Ponytail Palm, which is usually 5 ~ 15cm long. Make sure there are about 3 leaf nodes on it, and then cut it out.

2. Cuttings

The cut branches need to be disinfected, with a carbendazim solution applied to the wound, and then left to dry in the shade. After the treatment of the branches directly into the prepared loose soil cuttings, do good maintenance, 30 days will be successful in the growth of new roots.

3. Post-curing

To grow new roots, we need to have appropriate temperature, the temperature needs to be controlled in 20 ~ 30℃ or so. Ponytail Palm should also be placed in a sunny position, so that it receives enough light for photosynthesis to grow better. And in daily maintenance, spray water to replenish water to root.
