How to propagate Giant Reed

In the north, the seeds are immature, and in the south, the Giant Reed grows fast and the seeds reproduce too slowly. Therefore, sex reproduction is generally not used. But when it comes to artificial cross planting, sexual reproduction is a must. The method of propagation is to disinfect the soil and utensils used first, then sprinkle the seeds with good buds on the soil in the seedling bed or basin, add water to cultivate, and the water level gradually deepens with the growth of the seedlings.

1. Giant Reed root stem cutting and propagation

Giant Reed dug out the underground stem, cleaned the soil and old roots, cut them into blocks with a sharp knife, and propagated each of three or four buds. The planting method is according to the requirements of landscaping, generally plant row spacing of about 40cm, planting into a variety of geometric patterns is appropriate. At the initial stage of planting, the water level should be kept shallow, so as to improve the earth temperature and water temperature, and promote the growth of plants. During this period, weeds should be removed in time to prevent plants from competing for nutrients and affecting the growth and development of plants.

2. Giant Reed cuttage propagation

Giant Reed is usually carried out at the end of August or early September. After cutting the plants, they should not leave the water, and rooting can be carried out with cuttings and cuttings. The water level of the cuttings bed and pool is 3-5cm, and the rooting can be done at about 20d. This method is mainly used to provide the seedling material for the next year's potted plants. In open field cultivation, we can choose pond edge, false rock mountain edge and low-lying water place dig hole cultivation; Potted, choose 50-60cm inner diameter, leakproof pot is appropriate, after planting to keep the pot moist or shallow water. In the growing season, weeds should be removed in time to avoid competing with seedlings for nutrients. In Wuhan and the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, when the summer temperature reaches 42℃, water should be sprayed on the leaves to prevent sunburn. In the growing season, apply fertilizer 1-2 times to improve the growth ability and ornamental value of plants.
