Morphological features of Antirrhinum Majus

Antirrhinum Majus is a perennial erect herb, sometimes lignified at stem base, up to 80 cm high. Stem is base glabrous, middle upper part glandular hairy, base sometimes branched. Lower leaves are opposite, upper often alternate, with short stalks. Leaf blade is glabrous, lanceolate to rectangular-oblanceolate, 2 -- 6 cm long, entire. Racemes are terminal, densely glandular hairy. Pedicels are 5-7 mm long. Calyx is subequal, 5-lobed, lobes ovate, obtuse or acute. Corolla is in a variety of colors, from red, purple to white, 3-5 cm long, base in front and down into a pocket, upper lip erect, broad, 2 cleft, lower lip 3 lobed, in the middle of the upper lip uplifted, closed throat, corolla masque;Stamens 4, 2 strong. Capsule is ovate, ca. 15 mm long, base strongly forward, glandular hairy, apical foraminifera.
